Donald Trump’s Twitter profile

Last time I checked, Donald Trump had at least 88 million followers. I was one of those 88 million, so technically I was a Trump follower, but not really a “follower-follower” per se. And I don't support him one bit.

My reasoning for following ‘The Donald’ can only be explained by a line from my second favorite comedian, John Mulaney:

It’s like there’s a horse loose in a hospital. I think eventually, everything’s gonna be okay, but I have no idea what’s gonna happen next. And neither do any of…

Now, Asia doesn’t want them anymore, leaving developed countries scrambling

Recycling is often seen as one of the more effective means in reducing our environmental footprint. Segregating different wastes into different containers is a simple and noble task that anyone can practice in their households, as well as in a public setting. However, if you live in a western country, chances are that your trash is being shipped to Asia, making it their problem to solve. For decades, western countries have heavily relied on developing countries in Asia to bail them out of their own environmental costs of recycling. Since 1992, there has been a constant flow of unwanted trash…

Why the most proven strategy is always to “HODL”

Photo by Bermix Studio on Unsplash

On February 14, 2013, I had dinner with a girl I liked. We went to this fancy restaurant with a spectacular view of the Bow River. I eventually won her over. But long story short —the relationship didn’t work out because I think we both needed to work on ourselves at the time.

I couldn’t remember the restaurant name, but it had the words “charred” or “char” in it. But what I could remember — with a passion — was the overall money I spent in preparation for that day. I…

Our parents and grandparents have been through their fair share, it’s our turn now

Is the Economy going to get worse before it gets better? Most financial institutions will tell you that your money is gonna be okay, but they’re only saying that because that’s what the general public wants to hear, and these billion-dollar institutions are way above that to even care. Most will even tell you about how “normal” this cycle is — that when economies crash, they always end up recovering. We’ll, there is a bit of truth in that, but these time frames are set in years, and some can even go for a decade.

Encounters with bears might grow in the coming years

British Columbia, Canada is no stranger to both bears and wildfires. In 2019, there were a total of 21,546 calls to Conservation Officers regarding Black bear sightings alone, which was the highest number of calls for the past 9 years. In that same year, around 665 bears were “destroyed” as a result. It had to be done, bears that wander too close to humans and their settlements will build up a human association with food. A few will eventually see humans as potential prey items. In August 2020, a woman in…

Healthspan Cheat Sheet by Author

Longevity and the Healthspan

In the context of longevity, we must establish what it truly means to have a meaningful and longer life. What if you lived up to a hundred years old, yet you have been bed-ridden for the past 50 years?

This is where the concept of the Healthspan comes in. According to pathologist Matt Kaeberlein, the healthspan is the period of life spent in good health, free from the chronic diseases and disabilities of aging.

The dangers of traditional medicine, and why people like Dr. Farrah Agustin-Bunch are a danger to public health

When I was a child in the Philippines, I was hit by a viral ailment and they sent me to this person who is called a Manghihilot. A manghihilot practices the traditional healing art of Hilot, which utilizes any combination of chiropractic-like manipulations, massages, oils, herbs, and prayers. The Manghihilot’s place was packed. People showed up in droves and in long lines waiting for their turn to be “healed”. In our case, the Manghihilot was a female in her 60s, she was…

And not Filipinx

Recently, in an Instagram story, my buddy and I got labelled as Filipinx. It went a little like this, “karaoke with my filipinx friends”.

I saw the post when I got home, so I replied with a, “???”,

I was thinking it could be a typo, but I was still curious nonetheless, so I asked,

“what’s filipinx?”

“it’s a gender neutral term.”, the person said.

“since when?” ..was what I wanted to say,

instead I went with “I see.”

October is Filipino Heritage month in the U.S. It celebrates the long, intertwined and sometimes tumultuous history of…

The coronavirus pandemic disproportionately affects low income minorities, which far-right groups see as an opportunity

Photo by Taylor Smith on Unsplash

We have now reached the final quarter of 2020, and the global pandemic has already took a major toll in our economy. Many businesses are now pushing for reopening despite the advice of public health officials. Scott atlas, a COVID-19 adviser for the white house, has put in place various recommendations on how to battle the coronavirus, the most controversial of which, was “herd-immunity”. Herd immunity involves having to make a large portion of the community immune and fight off the spread of the virus…
